What do we look for in consultants?

We take great pride in hiring the right people to become consultants with us and who can hit the ground running on client projects post-training. Here is an overview of the qualities and characteristics we look for:

  • Strong communicators and collaborators
  • Curious problem solvers with growth mindsets
  • Strong intellect
  • Resilience and adaptability
  • Commercial awareness
02

Will I be required to commit a certain amount of time to the program?

You will be required to remain with us for the full duration of the 2.5-year development period (minimum 2.5 years) in return for the salaried training. This will be outlined to you in the training agreement document that you will receive as part of our contractual documents.

03

Can you provide details regarding the exact training syllabus?

Our training syllabus is continuously updated to reflect the market, meaning we can’t always provide full details of the four-month training period in advance. Details will be sent to you with your contractual documents.

04

How is my progress measured?

During training, you will receive feedback on test scores after every module covered. This will be delivered by a member of the Technology or Readiness Team. Post-training, performance-related feedback will be given to you at months 8 and 16 through formal checkpoints led by your Consultant Success Manager. They will also conduct quarterly cadences with your line manager on site to discuss your performance. Whilst on site, we strongly encouraged you to receive 360 feedback and drive development on your own as these are key attributes needed to build your professional profile.

05

What if I can’t commit to the full four months of training?

You will be expected to be available for the full length of the initial four-month training period as there is a lot to cover in a short duration, and any content missed during your absence will need to be covered in your own time whilst you are learning the new materials. Time off may be allowed for specific reasons; however, you must obtain approval from your recruiter beforehand.

06

What happens if I don’t pass the training?

You will be required to pass a series of assessments throughout the four months which are designed to test your knowledge and abilities, plus an additional assessment post-training. If you fail to pass the assessments, your contract with Kubrick may be terminated, but you may not be expected to repay any of the costs associated with the program. This is reviewed on a case-by-case basis (as outlined in the training agreement).

07

Will I be assigned to a client immediately after training?

As a consultancy, we are driven by demand, and this means there may be periods where we are demand constrained. During these times, it may take us longer than normal to place you with a client and you may experience extended periods in our Innovation Team. We are continuously enhancing this experience to ensure you get the most out of your time post training and between client assignments.

08

Do I get to choose my own client assignment/do I have a say in where I get placed?

Your client will be assigned to you by Kubrick rather than selecting your own client. We also have clients in various locations meaning you may not be placed within an organization or industry that you would have selected and must be willing to relocate for a role. Whilst we always strive to take your preferences into account, ultimately, we will decide where you will be assigned based on demand and where we think you are best suited.

09

How quickly will I begin working on client placements after training?

We aim to place consultants post training as quickly as possible, but the placement process is thorough, and this can take on average a few months. If there is a delay, you will be assigned internal projects at Kubrick and given opportunities to continue developing your skills until you begin your engagement.

10

What happens when I first begin my client assignment?

When you begin your client assignment, it will be your responsibility to ensure you get to know the organization, understand the clients’ needs and desires, understand your role, and the team you will be working in. Although our Consultant Success Team will be available to support, it will be your responsibility to ensure you hit the ground running from day one.

11

Will I follow my clients’ working hours or Kubrick’s working hours whilst on client assignment?

While on client assignment, your hours and work culture etc. will be dictated by the client rather than by us. Additionally, your client will inform you whether you will be working in-person, remotely or hybrid.

12

Will I be joining a client with other Kubrick consultants?

We’re focused on establishing stronger relationships with our existing clients and there is a chance there will be at least one other Kubrick consultant on site. However, as we are still adding new clients to our portfolio, you may be the first Kubrick consultant within a team/organization.

13

How many projects do consultants generally undertake over the two years?

You may be working on several long-term projects during your two-year development period or be assigned more frequent but shorter-term deliverables. This varies depending on our project pipeline and our clients’ needs/requirements.

14

Will I progress from Year 1 to Year 2 in terms of my role and responsibilities?

As you transition from Year 1 to Year 2, your responsibilities tend to increase in line with your growing skills and knowledge, plus understanding of the client and industry. This increased responsibility usually translates into more complex projects with visibility to the wider organization.

15

What does a day in the life of a typical consultant look like?

This varies depending on client culture, team, and projects. Your day could include meetings with stakeholders to clarify objectives or discuss progress, or be spent on coding/building models and completing independent work.

16

Who is responsible for my ongoing development post-training?

While on site with your client, we strongly encourage you to stay committed to your ongoing learning and development. It’s your responsibility to seek out development opportunities and forge your own career path within Kubrick. Identifying opportunities for development is a key part of your Kubrick experience, and as a business we are continually looking to support you in your technical and professional development. Through your Success Team and the Knowledge Library, you can find more details to help you understand what is available to you and how to best take advantage of these offerings, such as accreditations with our technology partners.

17

What kind of projects could I be working on as a Kubrick consultant on client site?

Our consultants have the opportunity to work on high-profile projects, such as:

  • Developing predictive models for retail companies, resulting in increased sales and waste reduction.
  • Building informative dashboards with Power BI to make data-driven business decisions.
  • Creating visualization tools, predicting KPIs, and providing accurate forecasts.
18

If I am entitled to a salary change, when will it take effect?

You will be entitled to a salary increase every 6 months, depending on performance. This will come into effect from the 1st of the following month from the effective date.

19

Does Kubrick provide a mentorship program?

Yes, Kubrick's mentor program pairs alumni/senior consultants with early-career consultants for a 6-month period.

  • Eligibility for a mentor: Within 6 weeks of finishing or having completed training as a Kubrick consultant.
  • Program aims to foster a meaningful mentor-mentee relationship.
  • Suggested contact: Reach out to your mentor 3-4 times over the 6-month period.
  • Additional resources provided to support the mentorship
20

At the end of the two years, am I obligated to stay with the client on a permanent basis?

You are under no obligation to remain with your client after the contractual period. Although, for the majority of our consultants, this is the most natural route, as consultants have developed key relationships and gained valuable in-house knowledge, resulting in a smooth transition to becoming a permanent employee. This route is for consultants who feel like their client is the right cultural fit, and a place where they are thriving from a developmental perspective. Other options include continuing with Kubrick as a Year 3 consultant, joining our Kubrick Advanced program, or becoming an Associate Principal – this is not automatic transition and depends on role availability.

Whether you are contemplating applying for permanent roles or not, it is essential to discuss this matter with your client and make your intentions clear (this will start at your year 2 Checkpoint with your CSM). You should also take time to prepare and ask important questions. Your Success Team will support these conversations and reinforce your preferences during client catch-ups. However, decisions on behalf of the consultant will not be made by Kubrick, particularly if the consultant is uncertain.

21

After the two years, are there any opportunities to remain with Kubrick as a consultant?

We have plenty of opportunities for consultants who wish to remain with us after the two years and would like to work on short-term projects across a range of clients and industries.
