This global insurer could not reliably identify the risks and geographic exposures within a portfolio representing almost half of its premium income. Obtaining fast, reliable and consistent information was central to both underwriting decisions and regulatory oversight.
Kubrick delivered a governed reporting capability that gave the business a clear view of its delegated authority portfolio. The program first resolved the underlying bordereaux issues, then established governance and standardized reporting so underwriters could use the outputs with greater confidence.

The challenge
Delegated authority accounted for approximately half of the insurer’s premium income, but its portfolio contained blind spots. “Missing data” appeared as the fourth-largest gross written premium segment and was also one of the largest country categories. These blind spots were putting their Lloyd’s Advanced Status at risk, so closing this gap was of high priority.
On the claim side, free text descriptions prevented claims or trend analysis. Incorrect entries made it harder to distinguish genuine exposure from data errors. Fragmented information meant that even a basic question required an IT ticket and a bespoke SQL query, with the answer taking up to three weeks.
The insurer needed to replace that partial, delayed view with governed information that underwriters could use when assessing performance, exposure and claims, and that the business could stand behind when demonstrating regulatory oversight.

The approach
Kubrick began by identifying the decisions and regulatory evidence required. This defined the reporting requirements for underwriting and oversight, then improved the underlying delegated authority data, governance and ownership needed to produce those outputs consistently.
- Identify where the portfolio view was distorted
Kubrick assessed 116 million rows to identify where missing or inconsistent data was distorting the portfolio view. We prioritized the fields that mattered most to underwriting, claims, operational reporting and regulatory oversight. - Repair and enrich the underlying data
The remediated 41 million rows. Missing insured-country information fell by 71% to create an accurate view of geographic exposure. Classifying 90% of unstructured data allowed claims to be analyzed consistently. - Assign ownership and controls
Once the priority data had been remediated, Kubrick developed governance and ownership arrangements for key data domains, supported by data-quality monitoring and controls to prevent similar issues from returning. - Build the foundation
With those controls in place, the team designed standardized gold data models in a ring-fenced Azure Data Warehouse to deliver a controlled reporting foundation. Users have direct access to trusted, governed data and analytics, turning complex third-party data into a strategic asset. - Deliver reports into production
Kubrick delivered 14 Power BI reporting capabilities for underwriting, claims, conduct risk, finance and performance management. Reporting was rolled out into production across the broader UK delegated authority business.
- Identify where the portfolio view was distorted

The impact
The solution also enabled complex third-party bordereaux data to become a strategic asset, rather than something managed through spreadsheets.
- Underwriters have clear information on risk concentration, geographic exposure and claims patterns.
- Underwriting, claims, conduct risk, finance and performance management teams work from the same governed reporting foundation.
- The data is part of coverholder renewal sign-off and enables ‘in year’ risk adjusted rate change analysis, instead of waiting till year end.
- The business has consistent evidence for regulatory oversight, helping maintain its Lloyd’s Advanced status.
The business has closed the gap between the actual portfolio and the portfolio its underwriters can see.
